Medical City South Luzon (TMC South Luzon) was recognized by Healthcare Asia for its pioneering remote healthcare program in the Philippines and employee engagement initiatives for the year 2020 at an award ceremony. virtual prize organized on May 12, 2021.

TMC South Luzon’s First Asian Healthcare Award is the Service Delivery Innovation Initiative of the Year award. It was awarded for its innovative solution and contribution to public health by ensuring patients continued access to safe and quality medical care during the pandemic.

As fear of Covid-19 and government-imposed lockdowns have all but eliminated face-to-face consultations and treatment, TMC South Luzon has pioneered healthcare delivery innovations to provide patients with options for access services and medical expertise.

At the height of the nationwide lockdown, TMC South Luzon showcased its virtual clinic allowing patients to consult through various telehealth platforms. This was complemented by a call center with a call concierge function and a telehealth center where doctors would have private sessions with their patients.

The telehealth center facilitates easy and efficient doctor-patient interaction as well as access to other hospital services, such as laboratory tests. Another program of the telehealth center is the TeleRehab service, which allows patients to initiate and continue physical therapy at home.

In addition to the virtual consultations, TMC South Luzon also realized the importance of informing its patients adequately and accurately of the facts regarding issues of concern and new developments. The disinformation about Covid-19 has continued online and this has fueled a lot of anxiety and fear. Through its Social Media Physician (SMD), the hospital provided its social media followers with a licensed physician to answer medical questions and refer them to specialist physicians upon request.

“It is important that organizations are innovative, responsive and agile in order to provide solutions to challenges such as forced restrictions of movement and fear of exposure caused by a pandemic. We knew we had to provide healthcare outside of the traditional hospital setting because of this. We also envisioned that the future, even after the pandemic, would be remote health. Interestingly, Covid-19 has accelerated innovation in the healthcare industry and pushed us into the future faster. Said Dr Cesar Ramon G. Espiritu, President and CEO of TMC South Luzon.

TMC South Luzon was also one of the first and few facilities in Metro Manila to provide Drive-Thru service not only for Covid-19 testing, but also for other services such as blood tests. in the laboratory, the electrocardiogram (ECG), x-rays, and pediatric vaccinations. The hospital also re-launched its home care services for patients who were still reluctant or unable to come to the hospital for their nursing, physiotherapy, nutrition management and diagnostic needs.

Raising the bar even higher in the delivery of remote healthcare services, TMC South Luzon rolled out its mobile clinic in February 2021. Conceptualized, designed and built in the second half of 2020, the mobile clinic offers laboratory diagnostics, ECG, radiography, ophthalmological clinic consultations, physical and medical consultations via teleconsultations, and vaccinations, all in the comfort of the home or workplace of their clients.

As of December 2020, The Medical City South Luzon had served approximately 2,500 people using its new services.

“The Medical City South Luzon continually strives to remain relevant and responsive to the needs of our patient-partners. Innovation and accessibility are key priorities in our mission to serve. Dr Espiritu said.

Medical City South Luzon also received the Healthcare Asia Award 2021 for Employee Engagement Initiative of the Year. TMC South Luzon always encourages positive change in the workplace by keeping employees engaged if not inspired.

By providing the necessary tools and development opportunities, TMC South Luzon nurtures a culture of engagement as well as an enabling environment where individual efforts are recognized and valued.

Exposed to such positive working conditions, employees develop a sense of pride, purpose and pleasure in what they do. This translated into an overall performance at the end of a tumultuous year that exceeded all expectations. TMC South Luzon believes that investing in its employees is an investment for success.
